As the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, mulled wine is the perfect choice to keep you warm.
While the typical mulled wine is usually made with red wine, in recent years mulled wine from white wine has become increasingly popular providing a slightly lighter and fruitier alternative.
For anyone who would like to give it a go, below you can find a recipe that we personally really like. For the ones that rather leave it to the experts, check out this delicious mulled wine made from Dornfelder grapes from Weingut H. Bastian which is currently on offer for £12.50.
Mulled wine recipe for red/ white wine
- 1 litre dry red or white wine
- 2 big oranges
- 1 lemon (only lemon peel)
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 7 cloves
- 1 star anis
- 1 vanilla pod
- 3 tbsp cane sugar
Cut one orange in slices. Squeeze the juice out of the second orange. Peel the lemon. Carefully scratch the vanilla pulp out of the vanilla pod. Do not dispose of the vanilla pod, it is also needed.
Add all ingredients into a cooking pot and let it simmer for one hour on low heat with the lid on. Make sure it doesn't boil!
