Hugo - The Rheinhessen refreshment for mild summer nights
A summer without Hugo is unimaginable in Rheinhessen! When the days get longer and the wine fest season starts, this wine-based cocktail is the perfect choice.
Every Straußwirtschaft (Rheinhessen German for wine bar) has it on the menu. And there is nothing better than a freshly made Hugo straight from the wine maker!
Since we want to share this special part of Rheinhessen culture with you, we have added a (personally approved) recipe below.
We hope you enjoy it!
Ingredients
- 2cl elderflower sirup
- 160ml prosecco
- a shot of soda
- 2 mint leaves
- 1/2 of lime
- some ice cubes
Hugo is usually served in a champagne or red wine glas.
- Cut the lime into two slices. Take one slice and gently squeeze it into the glass so that you get a few drops of juice. Take the second slice and either drop it into the glass or stick it to the rim.
- Add the elderflower sirup, the mint leaves and some ice cubes.
- Top up with prosecco and a shot of soda (for that extra bit of sparkle).
- Add a straw and stir gently to stop the sirup from collecting at the bottom.
